Adventure Begins
This blog will document my family's journey to becoming a foster/adoptive home for a child in the (hopefully near) future.
First, how did we come to this place in our lives where we decided to embark upon this journey. Wow, well that's a long story.
Five years ago, my husband Mel and I were blessed with a baby boy, whom we named Nate. At the time I was 37, and Mel was 39. It took us a year to get pregnant, and we were so excited when we were successful. At the time, even though we considered Nate to be an absolute miracle, we just didn't know how much of a true miracle he was. (And still is.)
When he was about 18 months old, we decided it was time to start trying for baby #2. Much to our absolute surprise and amazement we got pregnant on our first try. What a relief it was to know we didn't have to go through the monthly disappointments and stress of realizing this, yet again, was not our month. But alas, it wasn't meant to be and we found out in our 9th week that the pregnancy wasn't "viable". Unfortunately that was the one and only time we got pregnant the second time around, and 3 years later, decided to stop "trying" since our marriage almost ended partially due to the stress it was putting on both of us.
So, off and on we have talked about the possibilities of adoption, and/or becoming foster parents. This past year has been an interesting one for my family, to say the least, but it has culminated in Mel, Nate, and I really wanting to add a new family member to our household. I think the final turning point came a couple of weeks ago when Nate turned to us and said, "I really want a brother or sister." He brought it up again to Mel the next day at lunch. This started us really talking. We have also come to that magically month of December when Nate gets spoiled rotten with his birthday, then Hanukkah, and Christmas. Being an only child, he gets a lot of great stuff all year round, but December takes the cake.
I have contacted the Broomfield Health and Human Services Department and we have our first appointment to talk with the Foster Care Coordinator on December 30th. 2010 is going to be an exciting year.
And so the journey begins ...

I look forward to "sharing"
I look forward to "sharing" this experience with you. Seems more than coincidental that we reconnect at this time in our lives. Love, Julie
