Amazing

This book is amazing and one of the best or worst, depending on your view, aspects of this book is it stresses that you are the one who needs to change. It has made me more self aware of how I act. We never get it perfect, but I now have a better understanding of what I can do to help the situation at hand. We have 3 Fost-Adopt children 2 of which get violently angry. Following the guides in this book has significantly reduced the number and duration of outbursts.

Change is never easy

I often find myself completely at a loss as to why I'm seeing the behaviours I am. Change is hard. It is difficult for a parent, who knows that they are being perfectly reasonable, to take a step back to figure out a different way of handling a problem behaviour. If you dig your heels in with the "My way or the highway" attitude, you'll never win with fost-adopt kids. Often they have seen and experienced things that you and I can't really imagine, so absolutely nothing you might do to "punish" phases them.

Trust is the key and it comes very slowly.

We've bought a second copy

We have two copies. One for ourselves and one to lend out to people who might need it, like teachers.
